Ben and I had a history lesson about the genocide that occurred in
Phenom Penh back in 1976. We hired a driver with a tuk tuk to drive us around for the day for $12.
Our first stop was the 'Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum' where the civilians were brought to and tortured. The pictures you can see of the prisoners was intense! To see the beds they were tortured in and how they were battered and electrocuted was horrible!
We left and went to the killing fields, where the Cambodians were killed. We learnt a lot with our english speaking headphones. We saw the pits where women, men and even babies were battered till death and chucked into. It was such a deep and experience.
We then went to a shooting range where you can use an AK47 for $40, if we were on a holiday we would have done it. But since we are traveling we decided to save our pennies instead.
We then went to the central markets which was like a massive 1 level mall. We just walked around, looking at the electronics, food stalls and bags.
Back to the hostel where we met up with Katie and James again - they had spent the day at the central markets.
We played a few rounds of pool and enjoyed a nice chicken wrap. A bit of downtime to Skype my mum - which is always a feel good booster :)
Ben and James played soccer with the hostel owner and his friends on an astroturf field.
